Both sides have to make some concessions, there is no other way. But with all my respect for Zelensky, now he is standing on the position like "no concessions, only our terms and nothig else". This may well be the reason for Trump's displeasure with him I think.

Trump was a businessman for all his life. Nuff said. I'm not too thrilled with his habits and tactics either, but it would be helpful to take personalities into consideration. We're used to lawyers in the role of President but now it's different.

Без обид: я сам этнический украинец, но это не мешает мне видеть и оценивать некоторые, скажем так, реалии. Нынешние и особенно исторические. Hint: с 1992-го по, как минимум, начало 2000-х - было вот просто дохерища времени подумать о долгосроке. В крайнем случае - посмотреть, в качестве примера, на тех же прибалтов. И поступать соответствующе. Так нет же: не будем злить Донбасс, он всех кормит! Не будем ссориться с рашкой, мы же братские народы! Никаких НАТО, нас даже собственные граждане не поймут! И т.д. Ну и из совсем свеженького: "Ну хоть поржём..." ©
Меж тем, аж до начала 2000-х (как минимум) у Украины были ровно те же шансы уйти под крыло НАТО, что и у прибалтов.

Это было замечание номер раз. Замечание номер два: бизнес-подходы и бизнес-приёмы бывают ооочень разными. В зависимости от текущей ситуации, контрагентов, намеченных целей и т.д. Бывает, например, такой приём, как недружественное поглощение. Или, наоборот, внезапный альянс с конкурентом... Это тоже hint, если чо: "универсальности" не существует.
Ну и пункт третий: думать вдолгую очень легко и приятно, если в запасе есть ну хотя бы тысяча лет. У Трампа (да и у страны в целом, я думаю) - на всё про всё максимум четыре года. Ещё вероятнее - всего два. И уже даже меньше.

I'm not a lawyer, obviously. And I'm not a politician, obviously as well. But something tells me it's not gonna be without duress either way. If we're talking about necessary intervention of a "sheriff" of course. Otherwise, it could be left as is and said "the sheriff doesn't care about Indian problems" (sorry for the literal translation).
Moreover, Zelensky still has the option to give the "sheriff" the finger. There will be no duress after that, I'm pretty sure. But could it be wise?
